In the Curriculum
Sandy Lane Nursery and Forest School recognise the importance of equiping children with the knowledge and understanding of how to keep themselves safe from all harmful situations or abuse. As a Kidsafe UK registered school, staff have received specialist training to deliver a carefully planned, age appropriate range of activities which don't shatter the innocence of our very young children.
The Kidsafe UK programme teaches children the 'three' things they can do when they have 'yucky feelings' or feel uncomfortable about an experience or situation
- Tell a trusted adult
- Say 'NO'
- Walk away
Sessions cover the following areas:
Session One - Building trust and an introduction to feelings ( sad, scared, worried)
Session Two - Bullying, saying 'NO' and trusted adults
Session Three - Computer/internet safety and age ratings
Session Four - Keeping our body and our private places safe and children's rules to help with this
Session Five - Parents/carers arguing
Sessions include a game, reminder of the 3 things children could do if they have 'yucky feelings' and listening to an experience of KS (the Kidsafe Monkey) that gave him yucky feelings. Children are supported to talk about what KS could do to make himself feel better.
Before delivering the Kidsafe UK programme your child's room leader will invite parents and carers to a meeting where the sessions contents are discussed in more detail and any questions you have can be answered. After each session parents and carers will also receive a letter via Tapestry which explains what has been delivered that day to give you an opportunity to talk about it with your child at home.
