Rainbow Room - Big Question - Term 1.1 - What makes me special? - 2024 - 2025
It has been lovely to welcome back some children to Rainbow Room and also to get to know the children who have only recently begun attending with us. We are delighted with how well the children have settled and it has been wonderful to see how quickly their confidence has grown.
This half-term our big question is...
What Makes Me Special?
During the first half term of the nursery year, the children have been given the opportunity to take part in a range of activites which link to our overarching question.....'What makes me special?'
Children in Rainbow Room have been spending time looking at themselves in a range of mirrors, adults have been saying their names and naming their facial fetaures and body parts for them to hear and singing songs such as 'Heads, shoulders, knees and toes' and 'One, two, buckle my shoe'. Children have been encouraged to explore the range of sounds they can make, learn to identify their own belongings and let an adult know what they would like by making their own choices through a range of different communication techniques.
Adullts in nursery have been supporting children to develop an increased sense of self and develop their independent self care and self help skills, for example, washing their own hands and face, taking off and putting on their own shoes and socks and using a spoon to feed themself.
Parents have been invited to share family photographs, photographs of family pets and images of activities that children have enjoyed with their friends and family. Staff have looked at these with the children in nursery.
The children in Rainbow Room have now settled well in to their new learning environment are are being supported to take notice of other children in their group; to look at their faces, to hear their names and to share simple play experiences with them. They have a growing sense of belonging within our nursery community and our local environment.
