February 2025 - Forest Friday Fun

Class: Rainbow Room Year: 2024 - 2025

Robin Wood is finally showing signs of Spring with crocuses and daffodils in flower and new growth appearing on the trees.

Our last few sessions have been all about getting the children used to wearing waterproofs and wellies and making the transition to the forest and slowly building up time in this new environment.

There are many different areas of Robin Wood to explore.  A recent focus has been the mud kitchen area. Resources on offer are mud, water, petals, pans, beakers and tools and anything else that can be found to create interesting concoctions.

A mud kitchen offers a full sensory experience which is a key part of childhood development. Mixing soil, adding water, and feeling the mud between their fingers allows children to engage their sense of touch, while the sights, smells, and sounds of the natural environment stimulate other senses. These sensory experiences help children develop a greater awareness of their surroundings and improve their fine motor skills as they manipulate small tools and materials. And its a great opportunity to get all dirty!
