Sunshine Room: End of Term Summary- What Do I Know About Winter? 2/3/24

This half term we have been thinking about our Big Question 'What do I know about Winter?'

First, we talked during our 'Hello Time' about what we knew we tried to identify the different pieces of clothing, winter vegetables, and winter animals.  Using our book Winter by Emily Dufresne we learned about the weather, clothing, animals, and celebrations in Wintertime.

This half term we have had lots of different kinds of weather, our favorite day was when it snowed. We have been able to experience the winter weather. We have felt the cold snow and icy rain with our hands and felt the snow under our feet and we have splashed in puddles. We have talked about the cold hard snow, the slipperey ice, and the wet puddles. The changes in the weather gave us lots to think about, we alked about where snow comes from and what happens when it melts. We have enjoyed some ice experients where some of our winter animals had been trapped in the ice, we had to think about how to rescue them, some of us used a hammer to break the ice but some of us watched as the ice melted and the animals were freed.

During dance we have listened to winter music and pretended that we are snow, ice, wind and rain, and we have chosen how to move our bodies to create winter dances.

We have thought about which animals like to live in the warm and which like cold places. Also we have learnt about how some animals sleep all through the winter as there isn't enough food and this is called hibernation.

The children can now talk about the weather we experience in winter, what clothes we need to wear and talk about animals that like to live in the cold and which ones need to hibernate.
